Haddad Office Complex
Charleston, West Virginia

The objective was to rehabilitate this turn of the centruy railroad depot's interior and change the second floor from the "Grand Room" to a suite of executive offices.  The client wanted visitors to step off the elevator and exclaim "WOW!"

One enters the complex via the waiting area which is defined by ceiling vaults extruded from the circle head windows to an intersection at the middle of the space.  Similar to the waiting area are the two main offices which took full advantage of the windows by vaulting the ceilings around the circle heads.

The "Grand Room" on the east end of the building is detailed to incorporate as much of the existing architecture as possible.  The balcony is original.  The stair was scaled down toa ccommodate the new smaller room.  The original baluster partners were used and new pieces added as required.  Moldings, trims, colors, and other finishes were chosen to maintain the character of the building.

The primary sources of artificial lighting is reflected off the ceiling vaults from fluorescent strip fixtures concealed behind the cornice moldings.  This light supplements the large quantity of natural north lighting that fills the major spaces through the large windows.  Accent lighting, night lighting, and ornamental lighting is accomplished by recessed downlights and imported Austrian crystal chandeliers.
